Hello Students and Parents,

I wanted to write about student-teacher rapport in this new digital learning age. Then I thought I should ask my niece Aishwarya Bhide to write it from students perspective. I hope you will concur with the thoughts. I will look forward to your feedback.

Regards,
Prof. Jagdish Bhide, Founder and Teacher, Bhide’s Science Classes

Hola!! Remember that song that you liked instantly and you could reproduce it without anyone asking you to study it? Behind what met the eyes & ears was a team effort, a successful team effort! The rapport among the team! When we all were sitting in class and attending live lectures, facing each other, noting each other’s body language, gestures, facial expressions, it was very easy to build the rapport between students and teacher quickly.

However, now it is very necessary to mind what we are learning and consciously take efforts to build a good rapport in this era of digital education. As a teacher, they have to face challenges they never faced before, such as managing hardware, software, clear audibility and good visibility. The personal touch of live lectures is somehow lost in digital learning, hence we all must be little considerate of each other.

It is a task for us both, as a student and professor to let each other know that we understand the concept being taught and we are all on the same page. This can be done by answering questions asked by professor in Yes or No or a using a thumbs up or even an appropriate emoji. A teacher can also ask MCQs to encourage participation and attentiveness of students. Posting the topic under discussion, page number on screen helps easy accessibility for students. Remember students, it is our responsibility to help our beloved teacher to make the lecture easy for us. Be responsive. Remember those times, when our friends, let’s say Neha and Mugdha or Nitish and Parth sitting next to you would stare at you or judge you when you gave the wrong answers? Well, not anymore! No one can physically interrupt you here, so be open! In fact, this is a great opportunity to improve your skills of interaction. Ask doubts, it helps everyone to understand the concept better. Many a times your doubt is the unspoken question in the minds of many. Ask for small breaks which will help to digest everything being taught.

Building a good rapport is very essential now more than ever! So, students be fearless, and remember it’s always a give and take in any relationship. Your professor will be more than happy to help. Keep smiling, keep learning!
